Had an idea occur to me. Don’t know how to make it, but I’d certainly fund anyone who could make it a reality.
Replace the lenses in glasses with some sort of film that can be applied like stickers, but whose refractive index varies (through a controlled mechanism) throughout it’s length. Think of it as peel and stick lenses. You get a sheet of them. Cut them to fit whatever...
