The Audient Void

These two were supposedly based on a real couple, who said they wouldn’t board a life boat as long as there were younger people still aboard the ship. They both went below deck, presumably to their room, and that’s the last time they were seen.

Isador & Ida Straus
The couple had been married for 41 years at the time of the disaster. They raised six children together, and were almost inseparable. On the rare occasion that they were apart, they wrote each other every day. They even celebrated their birthdays on the same day, although they were well apart from one another. During the sinking, Titanic’s officers pleaded with the 63 year old Ida to board a lifeboat and escape the disaster, but she repeatedly refused to leave her husband. Instead, she placed her maid in a lifeboat, taking her fur coat off and handing it to the maid while saying, “I won’t need this anymore”. At one point, she was convinced to enter one of the last two lifeboats, but jumped out as her husband walked away to rejoin him.
When last seen by witnesses, they were standing on deck, holding each other in a tight embrace. Their funeral drew some 6,000 mourners at Carnegie Hall.
A monument to them still stands in a Bronx cemetery, it’s inscription reads: “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.”

You know, there’s nothing saying that movie can’t be made. Though you’d probably need to get permission from their estate first.

“You know her Legend. This is her story.”

/v/ makes the next LoZ game
What if Nintendo made a Zelda game where you played as Zelda, disguised as Sheik, during the seven years Link is sleeping in the Temple of Time?
Aside from Impa in Skyward Sword, there’s not much we know about the Sheikah, retainers of the Hyrule Royal Family, and why they all disappeared. And what of Hyrule’s “dark and bloody past” in the Shadow Temple? Could the Sheikah and their disappearance have anything to do with it? There’s a whole chunk of lore and story and money to be made from such an idea!
-Stealth-action game complete with Sheik’s gear and abilities from both OoT and the Smash games
-Explore the secrets of Hyrule hidden by the Sheikah
-Learn the ways of the Sheikah
-Follow Zelda’s quest as she copes with the loss of her kingdom, her own disappearance in her people’s time of need, uncover Ganondorf’s plans, and help set the stage for the Hero of Time’s own work.
This would be awesome, but I’m afraid it might be too grimdark for Zelda. /v/ actually came up with a good idea.

I WANT TO PLAY THIS

I would play the hell out of this.

If men dressed like this on a regular basis….
Things would get… very interesting very fast.

Gentlemen: Pay attention!

Guys, Always remember that when women say things like that, what they really mean is “If this specific guy I’m thinking of right now dressed like this on a regular basis…” In otherwords, don’t waste your time/money dressing like this unless you actually like the way you look in the clothes expecting it to change your outlook on a Saturday night.

That being said, I really wish I had the body for this cut of jacket. Or that they made this kind of clothing in a cut that would fit me.

This was me today at work. Really need to start getting more sleep at night.

Sleepy bunny at work! XD

Sometimes I see stuff like this and I exclaim, “Look at this fluffy bunny! He’s at work, sitting at his computer!” and then I stop and think about how glorious it is to live in a time when such a thing is not only possible, but prevalent. ORSometimes I see stuff like this and I exclaim, “Look at this fluffy bunny! He’s at work, sitting at his computer!” and then I stop and think about how at no point in time did any scientist, futurist, novelist, or anyone else sit down and imagine a future in which there would be pictures of cute, fluffy bunnies working at miniature computers in miniature offices made available to all of humanity.

You know, some of these are actually doable… Though I could never keep a straight face during the elevator bit .lol.

Southwestern Folklore

I’ve been delving into RPGs and music inspired by folklore from different places. Most of the folk tales and folk songs I’ve seen are at least a century old (some predate Christianities acceptance in the Roman empire), and living out here, there’s not much culture that goes back much further than that, so I’ve started wondering what would qualify as folklore out here.

When I think of folklore, I tend to think of stories that get passed down from generation to generation. But other than movies that get remade (ad nauseum) I don’t really see that happening here. Maybe it’s because (as they say) more people move here than are from here, so there’s less of an established group of locals. Maybe it’s just a product of our time (fewer storytellers, and when people are in the mode for stories they turn to Hollywood or it’s equivalent).

About the only thing that really seems to fit the bill that I’ve seen are cowboy stories. Legends of Wyatt Earp, or Billy the Kid. Not entirely sure whether that really qualifies though. But what else is there that’s local to the area, and acts as a common root out here?
